Knock! Knock! What’s There?

I started doing this first self project in my media appreciation course in my college. My first year in NID opened my eyes to embrace the details around me.Taking the basic principles of design and how to lead the viewer's eyes towards the point of interest in a photograph which alter the overall feeling and mood of an image. It also tends to convey different moods, ranging from power and strength, to growth. I feel this project was just a start of making me more observant and It motivates me to look forward to more aspects of Visual Language in Design and how it helps me in becoming more attached to my subject. It's a Process.

It was a long process of clicking like 1000 photographs , from be sure and feel good about the photographs .The Challenge is to make the audience know what I am seeing. I wanted to choose a different road. The media appreciation module makes me realise the importance of colours in visual language. Going with the black and white photographs is my concern with documenting the story. I find myself interested in the results of immersing myself in the story of doors and windows and also connecting with people of DHAL NI POLE. The power of black and white photography in Visual Language.

Other than that I started observing the forms , materials and textures when I started drawing in my first year. Also being a humanities student , I like studying history and about people. When I first went to Dhal ni pole as a part of another assignment , I was curious about their colours and vibrant lanes. The elders who I encountered told me that they have been living there since 1948 and the doors and windows are always the same. They understand the meaning of art and creativity and they help me get through my project.

I would often try to spend some time with the subject before clicking the shutter button. In many cases, I’ll try to have normal conversations with them and also listen to their stories. Interacting and just breathing in the same environment  gives me a lot of ideas of how to bring my project forward.
The photographs are about how doors and windows communicate with people from every walk of life. It highlights the deep meaning of their textures, the contrast and its aesthetic sense. It also tells how a doors or a window as a backgrounds gives different meaning to a
photograph. Whether it's about the camera angles or the shades or people it connect with its
emotion. It is an important part of a visual language.
